Wow! what a couple of weeks!! our longest bike ride in our training 110 miles! We decided to do the simulated "Arizona" loop for all three loops. the 1st time through the wind was pretty brutal, but I was able to keep it in check. tried to stay as positive as I could. On the 2nd loop we were supposed to pick up Kris Story and Lisa Martone. I got told we weren't going back to the cars....well not going to happen cuz I had to refill my water...and it was just in time to catch Lisa and Kris. The attitude on this ride, left a lot to be desired and after the 2nd loop...the attitude left the building! This was a super hard ride for me. I was too much in my head and I was worrying about my mom. Got a text from Dad saying she wasn't doing well...very tired and lethargic. i wasn't sure what to do on the last loop..if i should just say screw it and go to the hospital...or since I was already in the middle of nowhere, if I shoudl just head toward fremont so the wind would be at my back coming back on old 275..I decided to press forward and I tried to haul ass as much as i could to get back and go see mama.
Didn't feel much love or support on this ride and was in tears 3 times throughout it...but they say you become an ironman before you even get to the race...i think i'm "earning my title".
was supposed to do a 2 mile run off the bike, but was too worried about mom, so I headed to the hospital...on the way there eating a half a jimmy johns sandwich...drinking a soda and a chocolate milk...Mom was pretty out of it :( So i didn't stay long and i actually ended up doing my 2 mile run around my neighborhood on a full belly when I got home. Tough tough ride, but I DID IT! I know i get in my head a lot and I have to work on that internal positive voice for the race for sure!!!
This weekend Oct 14th we had an 18 mile run of fun! we were going to start at 730am but it was pouring and a thunderstorm so we waited til 8am....then we got so lucky! The weather was perfect for running..cool, a little mist here and there, but perfect! I was feeling darn good for 18 miles! it took us about 3 hours and I felt good most of the way. of course tired and sore! We headed to Le Peep for a recovery breakfast of eggs and pumpkin pancakes! yum!! Then Eunice took to the Cryo-spa for our 1st Cryo therapy experience! you basically stand in this chamber naked, and freezing cold nitrogen gas blows on you and makes you shake because you are freezing. you do get to have on wool socks and gloves! lol. But afterwards my legs and body did feel refreshed! i didn't feel as sore as I normally am after a long run! we also got to try the facial and neck cryo therapy wand. it felt amazing! wow!I will definitely try this again after my 20 miles next week!!
Today (Oct 15th) was a super super tough ride! Estella was already out and freezing her butt off early in the morning. we joined her in full "body armor" at 9am...I had on 2 jackets and an under armor, tights, gloves, a face and head mask and wool socks and shoe covers. BRRR! it was about 40 when we got started! after our couple of laps around valley/waterloo to find Estella, we met her at Loves and headed out on the "Arizona" Loop. Wind was a total bitch the entire way around! Could hardly get up to 14 most of the time.. saw 16mph a handful of times. By the time we got to the BP in Fremont we were hot and sweating! The ride back on old 275 was a blessing...full on tail wind and we took it back to the cars to ditch layers!! Estella went off on her own to finish her 110..and Lynn and I decided to try a different route...getting tired of the AZ loop!!! We headed to La Shara...which was NOT better for the wind. I can't believe how tired my neck and shoulders and my KNEES were for this whole ride! Not sure if tha twas from the run, or just the wind, or a combo of both but it was a rough go!! We rode around by Valley...towards 2 rivers and looped around pacific to center and back and finally were able to head back towards the cars. There were many times i wanted to quit today and call it good at 60 miles, but we stayed strong and perservered! Even saw Lou Anderson out there, and he said he was just in survival mode as well. Just have to keep up that forward progression...keep my head down and my head in the game. Get through it and get it done! I know we are in for wind in AZ so we will defnitely have that practice down!!!
WOW!! I feel like Rocky...Getting stronger!!! lol.
Next week the saga continues with another 100 mile ride and 20 mile run...I GOT THIS!!! Hoping the weather knows that and cooperates!!!
